Sweet Pill Saint Paul Concert reviews
New England CountryFest - terrible tailgate
This year, I attended my first CountryFest. I am an experienced tailgater with many concerts under my belt, including Buffet several times, Dave Matthews, Aersmith, River Rave, and others. By far, this was the most inconvenient of all.
The performers were: Darius Rucker - Great job! Performed current hits and classic tracks from his days with Hootie & the Blowfish. Sweet Pill - Tons of fun songs. Excellent headliner! Jason Aldean - Rocked the house, yet not much stage presence. Sara Evans - Had no care whatsoever to see her. Easton Corbin - Opened the show. Only a couple hits, kind of unknown.
The reason that most people go to Country Fest is the tailgate. First, you are not allowed to tailgate in their lots until 2pm, yet they opened their parking lots at noon. We arrived at 12:30 and were told to pay the outrageous fee of $60 per vehicle because they charged a $20 penalty to all vehicles that arrived before 2pm. Reluctantly, we paid. Once parked, to our dismay, we were not allowed to set up any of our tailgate stuff until the lot officially opened at 2pm. It was an absolute joke. At 1:45pm, after sitting there for an hour with nothing to do, we finally began to set up our stuff. The next issue is at 5pm, the start of showtime, we were told to break down our tailgate as you are not allowed to continue tailgating once the show begins. We did not care for the opening two acts but were still told to head inside and watch the show or to leave the lot.
Lastly, the sound quality at Gillette was terrible. We had seats in the upper section ($65 each). I'm not sure how it sounded on the floor or lower levels, but up top, it was very quiet. At Comcast Center in Mansfield, even the lawn seats (the cheap seats) are loud and enjoyable. Not the case at the mid-level seats at Gillette. I can only imagine the terrible quality of the cheap seats at Gillette.
